Zahir Abji - Founder, President and CEO
Zahir founded GuardRFID Solutions in late 2006, and incorporated the company in March of 2007. He has had more than 30 years of experience in business management, global operations management, product development and senior engineering management roles. Zahir was the President and Chief Operating Officer of eXI Wireless Systems and was responsible for its rapid growth between 1998 and 2002. Prior to that he was at Motorola for over 16 years in a variety of senior management positions, including business development, product development for wireless data solutions, and management of R&D and manufacturing operations teams in Japan, Singapore and Europe. Before founding GuardRFID, he was the Vice President of Operations at Epic Data Inc., a developer of data collection systems for the Aerospace & Defense and Heavy Equipment industries. Zahir holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Bio-Medical Electronics from the University of Salford in the UK.
Dalibor Pokrajac – CTO and Vice President of Engineering
Dalibor joined GuardRFID in July, 2007. He has over 26 years of experience in development of complex embedded systems, management of multidisciplinary engineering teams and oversees manufacturing operations. Before GuardRFID, Dalibor spent 8 years with eXI Wireless Systems, and later Verichip Corporation. As Vice President of Engineering, he delivered active RFID and RTLS technology solutions into the healthcare market. Dalibor is member of Standards Council of Canada as Technical Expert within Canadian Advisory Committee for ISO JTC/SC31. He has been active in various roles in developing RFID and RTLS standards within ISO (JTC1/SC31), IEEE (802.15.4 and P1847) and IHE (PCD). Dalibor is registered as a Professional Engineer and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Electronics from the University of Zagreb in Croatia.
Doug Stevens – Vice President of Sales and Marketing
Doug has broad experience in customer service and active RFID technical support. Having spent 15 years with Sensormatic Canada, he drove the concept of customer service as a core differentiator and sales tool. Doug spent over 4 years with eXI Wireless in a similar position before moving to GuardRFID to continue his work in creating excellence with Customer Support. Doug holds a Diploma of Technology in electrical/electronics.
Linda Soh CPA, CGA – Financial Controller
Linda joined GuardRFID in July 2011, after having consulted for the company for a few months. Before joining the Guard RFID family in December 2010, Linda held senior accounting/finance positions in various Manufacturing & High Technology companies, including Motorola, MDA Corporation, Epic Data & Creation Technology. Her collaborative, focused, customer-centric attitude has enabled her to motivate, mentor and build strong teams. She has been instrumental in implementing & improving policies, processes, procedures & internal controls in the company, and has been instrumental in migrating GuardRFID’s basic financial system to a full-blown ERP system to improve cross-functional data capture, exchange and collaboration, and to support the rapid growth of the company. A Chartered Professional Accountant, Linda also holds a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from the National University of Singapore. She enjoys working at Guard RFID; a growing organization with great people. A company that truly values its customers and its employees.
Byron Blackburn – Director of Business Development
Byron joined GuardRFID Solutions in September 2015. He has more than 35 years of experience in global manufacturing operations including roles in management, product development and senior corporate initiative roles. He spent over ten years at Caterpillar as their key Global Technology and Automation Manager Technical lead, and drove a course of rapid integration of new technology into their processes and logistics operations. During this time he became an adopter of active RFID technology, and soon after leaving Caterpillar he became a developer and promoter of the technology, acquiring significant experience in active RFID deployments in a wide range of markets, including Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Construction, and a host of others. Byron holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, a MBA (Industrial Management Focus) from the Caterpillar/Milliken University Decatur Illinois, and both a Masters and Doctorate in Religion from Seminary school through the Lutheran Diocese Missouri Synod.
Board of Directors
James is well known and revered in the Vancouver’s technology. He was an audit partner in KPMG's Technology Group in their Vancouver office for 20 years. As founder of the BC Technology Industries Association, he was a board member for its first nine years. He initiated the founding of the Clean Technology CEO Alliance and served on its Advisory Board. James also served on the board for WINBC for three years and the Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC for 4 years ending in 2010. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the BCTIA in 2009. James was a founder and board member for ten years of Social Ventures Partners - Vancouver, a group that contributes both time and money to local innovative charities. James currently sits on the Board of several public and private technology companies.
Gary B. Smith
Gary is the Founder and President of ColorID, a supplier of ID and security products to Healthcare, the US Government, Military, and to universities and colleges. He is also a founder and director of H2 Workforce, which designs and produces human resource information systems. He was a founder and director of WorkWireless in 1999, which was acquired in June, 2008. Mr. Smith was the President and CEO of Glenayre Technologies. During his time at Glenayre annual sales grew from $5 million to over $400 million. Mr. Smith studied Electrical Engineering at Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia and is a Professional Engineer. He also received business management training at Stanford University.
Dr. Norman Toms, Ph.D.
Dr. Toms was the founding CEO of highly successful Sierra Wireless, a developer of wireless technologies, devices and solutions. He was instrumental in Sierra Wireless’s success from being a pre-revenue start-up in 1993 to a company with revenue in excess of US$200 million in 2004, the year when he retired. Dr. Toms has a Ph.D. in Physics from Cambridge University and has held various senior positions with Plessey (UK), Bell Northern Research, Scientific Atlanta, the Mobile Data Division of Motorola Inc. and MPR Teltech Ltd. He has been an active member of various national scientific committees, as well technical committees within the Wireless Data Forum. In 1998, he was recognized by the Wireless Data Forum with an award for lifetime contribution to the industry.
